A difficult time

Hello Jackie DeShannon:
Last week was very difficult for me. I was on my way to work. I got outside and it was vicious. The sun hit my face and I thought. “This is like “What was your day Like and “Brighton Hill rolled up into one! I want to take the afternoon and get lost and go run in the sun! It reminded me of 1979. I was at O.D.U. It was January, but instead of being freezing cold, it was really nice. I would begin reasoning. It is so nice today. This could be the last nice day I’ll see for a while. What would Jackie DeShannon do if she were in my shoes? Let me think. At 9:00. I got general chemistry, at 11:00, I got algebra and trig. There’s also English lit. At 1:00. But this day is great. The sun is out, the sky is blue. Would Jackie really want me to waste the moment? Instead I could catch the bus that is going to Ocean view, my buddy Ralph has his guitar. We could hang out on the beach. It’s just one day. The only problem was that during that winter, there were a lot of “warm days” At the end of the semester Old Dominion University rewarded me for my effort with a lovely letter that mentioned something about academic probation. That year I even wore a toga to a party. How was I suposed to know? Jackie, I thought National Lampoon's Animal House was based on real events. Although this time, Jackie DeShannon’s little voice in my sub conscience prevailed; and so I went to work.
Have a great week!

I was born just after Jackie's top 40 heyday ended. But I never forgot watching the Grammy Awards when I was a kid, seeing that someone other than Kim Carnes was singing Bette Davis Eyes, and being awfully disappointed- for about 5 seconds. Just the most beautiful, earthy performance with Donna Weiss and obviously I was confused- why is the songwriter such a phenomenal presence?

My mom quickly gave me the 411.

Just watched it again on Youtube and it's still acoustically electric.

In year 2010 there was a remake of True Grit, last weekend a friend brought the DVD over, and well, the movie was good. Although trying to copy John Wayne, well, is just that “copying John Wayne” It’s just not quite the same. Trying to copy the “Duke” is kind of like going to a Chinese restaurant when deep down inside you want pizza or vice versa. When you’re in the mood for chicken lo mien and eggrolls and fried rice, you don’t call Pizza Hut. When I want to watch True Grit, I want to see John Wayne in the saddle. It’s like Jackie DeShannon. They are both masters of their crafts. Unique and special. When I feel the need to be rejuvenated, inspired and peaceful in my soul, I listen to Jackie DeShannon.

Good morning Jackie DeShannon, Sandy Harris, and everyone out there in "Jackie DeShannon" Land:

I remember growing up with the Monkeys. A lot of their songs as well as a lot of the music of the day. Sure they addressed issues of the day, but that's where they have a lot in common with Jackie DeShannon. Sure the issues are serious. Things like environmental issues, predjudices, and various infustices. But after I listen to them, I feel uplifted, and begin thinking. " That makes sense. Is there something I can do today. As small as it might be to improve my world to make it just a little better for me and those around me. I meditate a lot on Jackie's words "I hope when you decide kindness will be your guide." There were a lot of songs during that time period that seemed to just have the goal of making the listener feel good. Like the song "I'd Like To Teach The World to Sing." Those songs like Jackie DeShannon's works are things that never go out of style or decrease in value.

I tell ya this week in Ohio there was another school shooting, gas prices are on the way up because everybody is worried that Iran is going to get a nuclear weapon. Right now the news is doing a report on the number of weapons in schools. Jackie DeShannon, Sandy Harris. You know what I think. I think everybody should just stop. Everybody and every government should just stop and take a whole day off and go run in the sun! Because Jackie like you sang a long time back.

"There is no losing,

I don’t spend every waking moment listening to and thinking about Jackie DeShannon, just almost every minute

Earlier this year presidentO’Bama was doing a speech relating to NASA possibly returning to the moon one day. In the speech he stated that we know that nothing can travel at the speed of light. I’ve heard that statement before. But wait a minute. If nothing can travel at the speed of light, doesn’t that nullify Albert Einstein’s theory of energy that states E=MC2. C= the speed of light. Going by that statement, in order to create energy a particle of mass would have to reach a speed of 34 thousand, 596 million miles per second. Anyway, Just one of the thoughts that wonder through my mind when I’m not meditating on the wisdom of Jackie DeShannon and the practicality of her many works.

There are no commonly used perfect rhyming words for orange, though some claim the word sporange, meaning 'an enclosure in which spores are formed', counts as a perfect rhyme.Lets see.
I was having a simply wonderful day.
I was walking down the street to see Jackie DeShannon and delightful Sandy Harris in beautiful downtown sunny L.A. Suddenly I dropped my orange and slipped on a.....sporange. Finally a Santa Anna wind came and swept me away. Does that work?Frankly why someone would go and leave 'an enclosure in which spores are formed on the sidewalk where someone could trip on is beyond me. After you read this you are probably thinking. "And we thought the dessert was dry."

Hi,

I used to listen to KNX-FM LA, which gave you quite a bit of airplay back in the 70's and 80's. They played a song of yours that I have been looking for for over 20 years ago. The song was about Dorothy and the fact she should have stayed in Oz. What was the name of that song, and is it available ANYWHERE?? I would kill to get it.

Thanks so much,

Hello Jackie DeShannon:

I just saw a commercial for a play that is coming to my area. Titled “The untold story of the witches of Ozz”

The untold story of the witches of Ozz. I got an idea. Why doesn’t Someone create a play about how forty years have up and slipped away since a lovely dark haired girl that was taken from her one and only world. Well Jackie. Like you sang. I guess it only serves her right for trading all that color for black and white. All because there ain’t no way to stand Kansas once you’ve been to Ozz.
